Well guys can you say CONTROVERSY?????

Kaiso Forum opened this past Sunday to a healthy crowd, and can I say all the calypsonians were on point!!!!

The star of the night no doubt was young Rasheda stole the entire show, this young calypsonian has a powerful message and do not get me started about her voice. She has a future ahead of her !!

But because I said that don't think that the rest of the lot was not good!!

They were fantastic, and man de food was so good, my compliments to who ever did de cooking cause it reminded me of me own mummy's cooking. It was toooooo SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!

Soooooo, I don't want to give anything away, I suggest wanna come out and see what all the ruckus bout - dis tent turning into a CONDO boy,...it STRONG STRONG STRONG!!!!!!

Man de BBQ was rocking and tumbling,... the calypsonians that is,.. I have never seen such abuse of an empire!! BUT my boy held his own against the "cricketers of the day",.. the ones that stayed on their feet that is... BOY!!! those of you who missed this,..go right ahead and kick ya self!!!!

Boy oh boy if a bus could talk the things it would say about this pass weekend's trip to Springfield Mass. Pecong 4 so... boy I hear Structure get licks galore!!!!, the sleepers provided many a laugh for all o we. I tellin ya it was laughs for days!! Peepl calling now already for the ride to New yuork Next year,,.... boy look if I was wanna I would be booking my spot from now cause it's only so many that we can take. Kevin Padmore, Dick and France Lochan the current Monarch to name a few provided for fantastic company!! Well our annual BBq is next on the books for this Sunday August 23 at Wilket Creek bring ya dominoes and cricket gear. ...as ususal bring de deep heat cream too cause there is always a pull something when all done!! peace!

Those of you who are fans missed a special treat this last Sunday when Bajan Monarch Red Plastic bag AKA Bag brought this evening of pure Kaiso enjoyment to a climax with ole time fav Ragga Ragga and the ever popular Volcano!
But leh me say right now the competition in de FORUM hot fuh dayzz.
New comer Black I had us all on our feet not to mention rising star DeeLee !

RED MAN

Michael Thomas aka Redman hails from the island of Grenada where he began his musical journey,as a reggae performer in 1984 for four years he thrilled the street and dancehall audiences. In 1988 with the help of Grenada,s police band he sang his first kaiso and also was master of ceremony in the kaiso tent . He moved to Toronto in 1989 and in 1990 was a finalist in OCPA's tent. Redman performed in the tents for 11years he has been a finalist no less than 9 times . Known for his upfront and peppering kaisos . His logo is ''none shall escape in kaiso''. Red Man took a much needed rest for 7 years .a very versatile performer redman has recorded reggae rnb kaiso and soca he will be on the cast in forum in 2008.

2009,... Redman finally captures the hearts of the judges and wins the Monarch competition!!!

Susan G

Susan G, best known for her smash hits; Mr. Music Man and Soca Addict is no stranger to the Calypso Forum family. Susan has made international appearances on stages including the Cayman Islands, Columbia, across the United States and Canada. Susan G. started her singing career as a background vocalist in Barbados with the Battle Ground calypso tent and lead vocalist with the pop band Sauvage. In Barbados she also worked with the likes of Red Plastic Bag, Gabby and Gryner. In the early 90’s Susan made Toronto Canada her home where she started singing with the band Taste of Madness. Presently she sings lead vocals with Toronto’s own big band Neu Jenerashun, COBA dance ensemble, and Toronto’s a capella group Mo’Banja.

King Cosmos

Born in Trinidad and Tabago, King Cosmos immigrated to Canada over 20 years ago. Educated at Ryerson and York universities, where he studied drama, and at the University of Toronto. King Cosmos has worked as an actor in vairious parts of Canada including Quebec, Saskatchewan and Alberta. He has played a variety of roles on film, television, radio and on stage. King Cosmos began composing and singing calypsos in 1981, his first album entitled "Culture Shock" was recorded in 1990, and his most recent entitled "Fire"in 2000. His accomplishments include being a recipient of the Chalmers Award, Canadian Calypso Monarch 1995, winner of the Canadian Reggae Music award for best Calypso CD 1998, and was a Sunshine Music award nominee, for best male vocalist in 1998.

CONNECTOR has been featured in such films as “Blues Brother 2000”, “In Too Deep”, “Ladies Man” and “The City”.

CONNECTOR continues to make his presence felt among many, with his many performances. He has shared the stage with other popular Soca Artiste such as: Defosto, Crazy, Baron, Johnny King, Preacher and the Mighty Sparrow to name a few. CONNECTOR has also been the recipient of the Mas in the City Monarch of Canada Award and the Canadian Reggae Music Award for the song, “Bump & Shake”. Additionally, in 1999 he was nominated for “The Sunshine Award” in New York for the best political and social commentary calypso. This was for the song “De Nation Cries”.

In 2001 he also performed at the Harry Jerome Award ceremony in Toronto also in 2002 he attended the Nottinghill Carnival in London England, performing on stage with well known artiste such as: Black Stalin, Ricky Jai, Drupatee and many others. CONNECTOR also did great performances at many other carnival celebrations such as Hamilton, ont and Carifest in Montreal, Quebec. He was also an honorary guest at the “Snowflakes of Pan” concert at the “Leah Polson theatre” in January 2003 where he performed his hit song “Pan in De Air” for which he won the 1st runner-up title for the first ever Pan Kiaso Finals competition in Canada.

Once again, CONNECTOR has excelled for 2003, he was a finalist in the OCPA Calypso Monarch Competition, Pan Kaiso Competition and was crowned “Soca Monarch King” for the 2003 Soca-Monarch of Canada Competition with his hit song, “Ah Feeling too” on the Caribana compilation Cd for 2003. During the Caribana, season he performed at the Caribana Fusion Concert along side some of the hottest Soca/Calypso and Reggae artiste such as the Mighty Sparrow, Beenie-man and many more. Connector also performed on the Olympic Island Arts & Cultural Festival featuring many top international soca, reggae and calypso artiste. He also did a major performance at the Trinidad Independence Day Celebration on August 31st, 2003 at L’Amoureaux Park in Canada. In honor of his victory for being crowned the 2003 Soca Monarch King Title, there was a concert held on September 14th, 2003 at the Hibiscus Restaurant and Bar, where Connector did an amazing performance before a very pleased audience, rendering many of his hit songs over the years.

As reigning Soca Monarch 2003 of Canada, CONNECTOR has attended the Miami Carnival Festival 2003 in Miami Florida. He performed at the BeeWee Fly Girls Fete, on stage with many of the top Soca Artiste such as: Iwer George, Bungy Garlin, Impluse, Rupee, Double D, Ricky Jai, Kevin Little and many more.

Structure entered the Calypso Arena in the 1980's with the social commentary "Product of the Classroom". Since then he has been a regular in the yearly Pic O De Crop competitions in his native Barbados, where he developed his unique style of incorporating subtlety and humor into his art form. After immigrating to Canada in 1999 he took a three year hiatus from the art form. In 2002 he entered the OCPA sponsored Kaiso Monarch competition, where he placed 1st runner up.
Structure is currently the reigning monarch capturing this title in 2003 , 2004 and 2005 along with 10 of the 11 remaining categories, including the most coveted People's Choice Award.
The founder/manager of the Kaiso Forum Calypso Tent, is also actively involved in play writing and hopes to produce a full length play in Toronto quite soon. An avid sports fan, Structure also has a deep passion for Cricket and Dominoes.
Structure has held the position of Vice President of The Organization of Calypso Performing Artistes for two years and is a member of the Caribbean Cultural Committee, and sees himself as an advocate for this indigenous art form and pledges his continued support so see it grow from strength to strength until it attains the the recognition it so rightly deserves.

In 2006 Structure achieved 6Th place in the Pic O De crop Competition on Barbados with Youth Restoration and I want a Bag!

King Structure captures the crown for the 4th consecutive time with I know and no Mexico!
